Entertainment Weekly posts first clip from Keating’s CARNAGE PARK

CarnageStill

Shots are fired in exclusive clip from Sundance action-thriller Carnage Park

There are some who believe Mickey Keating to be one of our most talented up-and-coming directors. He is certainly among the most prolific. Last year saw the release of his third film, the monster movie Pod, and he is set to debut his fourth, the early Polanski-homaging haunted house tale Darling, later in 2016. But that’s not all. Keating, who is still just 25, has already finished his next project, the action-thriller Carnage Parkwhich is receiving its world premiere at the Sundance Festival on Tuesday. Set in the late ’70s, the film concerns two bank-robbers and their hostage who find themselves in the sights of a psychotic ex-military sniper.

Carnage Park is my total love letter to Peckinpah, and Deliverance, and ’70s survival movies,” he says. “It’s set in 1978 and it’s a crime story [which] turns into a fight for survival. It’s hard to categorize in a way, because it’s an energetic crime movie that goes horribly horribly awry. I think it’s going to be something different for people.”

Variety Review: Reichardt’s CERTAIN WOMEN “marvelous”

“…Separating the spare narratives of several disparate Montana women — a morally stressed lawyer, a nest-building mother, a lonely ranch hand — waiting indefinitely for their worlds to fall into place, it’s a peculiarly riveting examination of the lives lived when even their owners aren’t looking. Crafted with Reichardt’s customary calico-textured beauty and expertly performed by such hand-picked ensemble players as Kristen Stewart, Michelle Williams and Laura Dern, this unapologetically open-ended slow burn probably won’t convert many viewers to Reichardt’s softly-softly sensibility, but it’s among her richest, most refined works.”

Fessenden projects in PARK CITY this year

Fessenden has projects as producer, executive producer, actor and editor at the Sundance Film Festival and Slamdance Film Festival, taking place in Park city Utah this year and starting today. Good luck to all the collaborators!

Sundance2016

CERTAIN WOMEN (dr. Kelly Reichardt) World Premiere of the film executive produced by Fessenden and Todd Haynes, starring Laura Dern, James Le Gros, Jared harris and Michelle Williams. Entertainment Weekly calls it “one of the top 12 must-see films of this year’s festival.”

RIVER OF GRASS (dr. Kelly Reichardt) New digital restoration of Reichardt’s debut feature, starring Lisa Bowman and co-starring, edited, and produced by Fessenden, will unspool at Sundance this year after premiering at the festival in 1994. Stare Into the Face of a Disturbing Future in ‘Like Me’ First Look Photo
By Mike Lown

Back in March 2013, Indiewire named the indie thriller “Like Me” as its Project of The Month. Almost three years later, we can now share a first look at the end result, which recently completed principal photography.

The film is a collaboration between production companies Glass Eye Pix (“House of the Devil,” “Wendy and Lucy”) and Dogfish Pictures (“Compliance,” “Prince Avalanche,” and “Like Crazy”), who funded the project as part of their Dogfish Accelerator program. “Like Me” is the directorial debut of screenwriter and filmmaker Rob Mockler. The plot takes on our society’s ever-increasing addiction to technology. Addison Timlin (“Fallen”) plays Kiya, a discontented loner who documents her own crime spree through social media, which provokes a disturbing Internet following.

Discussing the film’s production in an office statement, Mockler said, “It was a truly magical experience working with such a dedicated and collaborative cast and crew. Addison crafted an incredibly nuanced performance and brought Kiya to life with an unnerving realism. She never failed to surprise me.”

Filming commenced on December 1, 2015 all around New York, starting in Brooklyn before heading to Rockaway Beach and Woodstock. Check out the first look photo above.

The news of LIKE ME’s principal photography wrap is making the rounds today, with stories popping up on Fangoria and Bloody-Disgusting.

PF: In terms of film, what is GEP’s crowning achievement?

LF: It’s the collective. Maybe that’s a cop out, but, it’s true, it’s a collective. Uh, I’m very proud of Stakeland, House of the Devil, and, obviously, my own films. They’re all very unique. They seem to inspire other people to think about the genre in a fresh way. So I think, uh, it’s another mission statement I have on my website, so forgive me for parroting myself, but it’s an accumulation of the work over time. And in the end, we’re talking about, uh, a bit. I’d like to think that Habit is in there somehow, an important approach to horror that resonated out into these other movies, an observational film about people going through real things but elevated by the presence of horror archetypes. Who wants to see a drama when you can see a vampire lurking in the corner? That’s my problem…I want to see the monster. I don’t want to see just straight drama. We all have to live with that every day.

James Felix McKenney on Angus Scrimm

GEP pal James Felix McKenney pens a moving dedication to his friend and longtime collaborator Angus Scrimm for indiewire.

My first conversation with Angus was in early 2003 when I offered him a role in our film, “The Off Season.” The part was that of an eccentric chain-smoking neighbor. He called me to tell me how much he enjoyed the script, but that he had to turn down the part because he had lost so many friends to smoking-related illnesses. When I told him that I’d happily make the character a non-smoker, he was astonished. “You would do that? For me?” he said. I told him that I would do just about anything to cast him in the role. “Well then, how can I refuse?” he responded.

Read on for the whole, wonderful piece.
