“Always make the audience suffer as much as possible.”

“Always make the audience suffer as much as possible.”
“The film will tell you what to do.”
“I made Scarface look like Mary Poppins”
“They tell us Logan is a great movie. Well, it’s a great superhero movie. It still involves people in tights with metal coming out of their hands. It’s not Bresson. It’s not Bergman. But they talk about it like it is… Big business wants you to think that this is a great film because they wanna make money off of it.”
I’ve had difficulty getting some of my films on television, the complaint is that it’s too personal,
but that’s what makes a documentary more alive, more true…
“Hi I’m Spike Lee and when I’m not directing I do this…”
“My desire was to entertain people.”
“Yeah because you’re filming, but if that was off I’d be whooping your ass up and down this street.”
“We may sympathize—even empathize—with Johnny, but we don’t fall in love with him. He’s the guy we know we’re better off without.”
“Ideas are like fish. You don’t make the fish, you catch the fish.”
