To celebrate our favorite holiday, we’re now offering this chilling tale for free at the Tales From Beyond The Pale Listening Room

Written by Fessenden, McQuaid, and Chapman, these tales of terror are inspired by Colorado’s Stanley Hotel and its surroundings, which also served as the muse for Stephen King’s THE SHINING. Featuring the voice talents of Fessenden, Martin Starr, AJ Bowen, Ana Asensio, Jocelyn DeBoer, Martha Harmon Pardee and Sam Zimmerman.

Ti West’s THE SACRAMENT, produced by GEP pals Jacob Jaffke and Peter Phok, starring AJ Bowen, Joe Swanberg, Amy Seimetz, Kentucker Audley, and Gene Jones, opens TODAY in New York at Cinema Village and in Toronto at Carlton Cinema, with more cities starting next week. “…Proving horror not just versatile, but essential to our existence were two of the hottest tickets of the weekend: Jennifer Kent’s THE BABADOOK and the wondrous presentation of TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE LIVE: The Stanley Edition, both of which engage the necessity of art’s dark thoughts and themes. The latter truly proved the treat of The Stanley [Full Disclosure: I was lucky enough to be part of the cast]. Directed by Glenn McQuaid and written by McQuaid, Clay McLeod Chapman and independent horror legend Larry Fessenden, the Glass Eye Pix brand of old-fashioned radio drama rendered live on stage is an incredible occasion as actors, composer, sound designer and foley artist collaborate before an audience’s very eyes offering (again) layers of reverent entertainment. You may close your lids for something of an authentic experience, or open and be wowed by the quick-witted work of telling a tale beyond the pale.

The Stanley Edition of TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE boasted diegetic tiers, too. Tailored to the hotel and festival, the story saw Fessenden play an author who looks and sounds like Jack Nicholson (not unlike Fess, himself) retreat to the Stanley for a bit of inspiration, as well as confront his own demons. His story then folds into one he writes, a pulpy werewolf tale that saw the voice talents of Ana Asensio, AJ Bowen (a teen wolf who bites through a placenta), Jocelyn DeBoer and Martin Starr and more. That’s in addition to the amazing audio work from foley artist Chris Skotchdopole and designer John Moros that truly led the experience…”

STANLEY FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES JOE DANTE TO RECEIVE “MASTER OF HORROR” AWARD PRESENTED BY MICK GARRIS, FULL CAST FOR TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE: THE STANLEY EDITION, PANELS, AND ADDED SCREENINGS

April 14, 2014 (Denver, CO) – The Stanley Film Festival (SFF), presented by Chiller and produced by the Denver Film Society, announced their full lineup of panels, added screenings, Dean’s Cup short films, and the full cast of TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE: The Stanley Edition (presented by Glass Eye Pix). Celebrating the best in independent horror cinema, SFF will showcase a full slate of features, shorts, panels and fully immersive experiences – set at the Stanley Hotel. The haunted landmark opened in 1909 and was the inspiration for Stephen King’s Overlook Hotel in The Shining.

Adding to the 4-day celebration of horror, TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE: The Stanley Edition has been created specifically for SFF 2014. TALES FROM BEYOND THE PALE is an ongoing series of audio dramas penned by luminaries from the world of contemporary horror. The Stanley Edition will proudly feature SFF attendees Martin Starr (Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead), Jocelyn DeBoer (Dead Snow: Red vs. Dead), AJ Bowen (The Sacrament), Ana Asensio and noted director and writer Larry Fessenden and additional special guests. The performance will be held at the Historic Park Theatre in downtown Estes Park on Saturday, April 26 at 4:45pm.

Rounding out the weekend is a series of panels. SpectreVision cofounders Elijah Wood, Daniel Noah and Josh Waller will present a panel about their film production and music management company and their future plans. Additional panels include Who Watches This Stuff?: Buying, Selling, Distributing and Exhibiting Horror Films Today as well as a panel focusing on the New Wave of horror featuring Ti West, Travis Stevens, Glenn McQuaid and Larry Fessenden.

YOU’RE NEXT, Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett’s home invasion horror movie featuring Fessenden alongside tons of Glass Eye pals including AJ Bowen, Amy Seimetz, Joe Swanberg, Kate Lyn Sheil, and Ti West, is now on DVD & Blu-ray. The discs include two audio commentaries and a “making of” featurette.
